KAREN RHOADS — A 26-year-old office assistant was stabbed more than 25 times in the upstairs bedroom of her home in Paris, IL, on July 6, 1986, alongside her husband.
DYKE RHOADS — A 27-year-old landscaper was stabbed more than 25 times in the upstairs bedroom of his home in Paris, Il., on July 6, 1986, alongside his wife.
RANDY STEIDL— Arrested in February 1987 for the murder of Dyke and Karen. Found guilty in July 1987 and sentenced to death. Was released in May 2004 after successful appeal and decision by state not to retry him.
HERB WHITLOCK — Arrested in February 1987 for the murder of Dyke and Karen. Found guilty in May 1987 and sentenced to life in prison. Was released in January 2008 after successful and decision by state not to retry him.
BILL CLUTTER — A private investigator from Springfield, IL, who specializes in criminal defense work and death penalty cases. His work on the Rhoads’ murder case helped free Herb Whitlock and Randy Steidl and also contributed to pointing the finger at other “suspects.”
